Pastor - Biography
Rev. Vance Becker became pastor at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd on July 20, 2003.
Vance was born in 1955 in Garnett, KS, and baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church, Aliceville, KS. He attended public schools near and in Garden City, KS, and confirmed his faith at Trinity Lutheran Church, Garden City. He received an Associate of Arts degree from St. John's College, Winfield, KS, an LCMS Junior College, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Concordia Senior College, Ft. Wayne IN. He graduated with a Master of Divinity degree from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, MO, in 1982.
Pastor Becker was assinged to St. Martin's Lutheran Church and Trinity Lutheran Church, Alexandria and Spencer, SD., where he served until 1988, when he accepted a call to be Associate pastor at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Glencoe, MN. He served there until coming to Good Shepherd in 2003.
After graduating from seminary, Rev. Becker married Linda Harstad in 1982 in Mankato, MN. They met when Vance was a church vicar and Linda a University student in Iowa City, IA. Mrs. Becker is an Elementary teacher at Good Shepherd Lutheran School. They have two children.
