The Kindergarten and First Grade class had an exciting
year. We enjoyed being with our friends and making new
ones. It was fun to see just how much we learnt over
the year. Getting ready to go to the next grade is
exciting but also a little scary.
The last couple of weeks, we were able to spend more time outside. We were able to go to Walter S. Farm Park and enjoyed playing kickball there. We were excited that summer vacation was coming, but on the last day, some of us realized that we wouldn’t see our friends everyday. That was sad.
We would like to thank you all for making this last year possible. A big thanks for all your prayers. Also a special thank you for those who have volunteered time and talents. We couldn’t do it without you.
Blessings to you all during this summer season. Take time to enjoy each other and God’s creation.

Greetings from Kindergarten and First Grade.
Spring has sprung, and we continue to work hard in the classroom. We especially enjoy the volunteers that come and work with us. Karen and Richard Johnson come and read with us several times a week. Mrs. Joan Graham and Jessica Brase also come and read or play learning games with us. We really enjoy their help and it’s so fun to work with them.
As a part of an Earth Day Unit, we talked about ways to take care of God’s earth. We learned that recycling is one way to help take care of the resources that God has given us. We recycle paper in the classroom on a regular basis. We know that you can make new paper out of the old paper. Well we tried it ourselves. We made “new” paper out of newspaper. We are using the paper that we made to make cards. What fun!!
We enjoyed May Day. We were able to sing for the residents of North Point and then deliver May baskets to the residents.
We are excited that warmer weather is coming and that we will be able to spend more time outside.
Blessings to you all.

News from Kindergarten and First Grade
Although the weather has often been cold and we couldn’t get outside, K-1 has continued to work hard. The 14th of February was a big day in our room. We not only celebrated Valentine’s Day, but we also celebrated our 100th day of school. We exchanged valentines and made necklaces with 100 beads (fruit loops and cheerios).
First graders have just finished several projects. They wrote a report on Abraham Lincoln and made murals of the rain forest. Kindergarten especially enjoyed reading the book All to Build a Snowman. We also enjoyed “catching” snowflakes on black paper so we could better observe them.
In the days leading up to Valentine’s Day, we discussed how God, in His great love, forgives us all our sins through Jesus’ death and resurrection. Because we are sinners, our will is often not like God’s will. We cannot fully obey God’s will, no matter how hard we try. God knows this. But His will is also that people will be saved. God sent His son, Jesus, to live, die, and arise for us. We pray that as His forgiven people, God will lead and enable us to live according to His will. We pray that this will also be done in your life.
Thank you for all your love and support. We especially thank you for your prayers and the time that many of you donate to help us at Good Shepherd. Blessings to you all!!

December 2007 - Kindergarten and 1st Grade

Our unit in Religion during the month of December is
entitled "Waiting." The unit started out by talking
about four young men in the Old Testament. Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego had
been captured, along with other people, by the
armies of King Nebuchadnezzar. They had to leave
their home in Jerusalem and travel far away to the
country of Babylon. It was part of God's plan that
the people would not return for about 70 years.
God was with His people and faithful to His
promises. When the time was right, even though
they had to wait a long time, they would be able
to return. Daniel and his friends were also
waiting for the Savior to come. God would have the
people wait a long time. But when the time was
just right, God sent Jesus to be born as our
Savior. Now during this time of Advent, we also
wait. Just like Daniel and his friends, we can
trust the promises of God. We know that Jesus who
came at Christmas will return for us when the time
is just right.
During this time of waiting we are doing some special projects. We have contributed to the Sharing Tree and talked about giving presents to others. We have drawn pictures of the real meaning of Christmas, and we are also making presents to take home. Of course there has been a lot of time spent working on our songs to share with family and friends. We especially enjoyed singing for the residents of North Point. What an exciting time of the year. We wish you all a blessed and Merry Christmas. - Mrs. Brase
